Septic poison can result in severe swelling and extended
hospitalization. If neglected, it can lead to the death. To reduce the
mortality rate among patients suffering from sepsis is likely to increase the
demand for sepsis diagnostics market.
About
Sepsis?
Sepsis can be caused as the immune system’s response to a bacterial
infection. Sepsis transpires when the immune systems releases chemicals to
fight the infection. After entering the blood stream, it causes inflammation;
further leading to poor blood flow, blood clots, and leakages in blood vessels,
depriving oxygen to vital organs. If neglected, it can lead to premature death.
Geriatric population, children, and patients suffering from cancer, AIDS, and
diabetes are vulnerable to contracting sepsis.
Geriatric population, children, and people suffering from AIDS,
diabetes, and cancer are highly vulnerable to contracting sepsis, due to their
weak immune system.
An
introduction to BCID
In 2016, the molecular biology counterpart of bioMérieux SA – BioFire
Diagnosics,LLC – received clearance from Food & Drug Administration (FDA)
for FilmArray Torch to along with FilmArray Blood Culture Identification (BCID)
Panel.
The BCID facilitates accurate and rapid automated detection of
antibiotic resistance genes and pathogens associated with blood-steam
infections. The BCID is simple with only 2 minutes of hands-on time, requiring
no precise measuring or pipetting. It has turnaround time of around an hour.
How it
Works
The FilmArray reagent pouch store the important reagents for reverse
transcription, sample preparation, detection, Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
and detection in a freeze-dried format. Before running it, the user injects
hydration solution and sample combined along with sample buffer mix into the
pouch. The machine does the rest.
The FilmArray extorts and purifies all nucleic acids from this sample
and performs multiple PCR. In the first stage of PCR, the machine performs
sing, large volume, and massive multiplexed reaction. While in the last, it
performs individual singleplex second-stage PCR reactions to detect the
products from the first stage PCR.
The FilmArray software automatically generates a result for each and
every target in a single report using endpoint melting curve data. The BCID
Panel tests can for three antibiotic resistance genes and twenty-four pathogens
associated with bloodstream infections.
Market
Insight
According to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc., the global sepsis
diagnostics market is predicted surpass USD 874.6 million
by 2025. Increasing incidences of sepsis has given rise to the need for early
diagnosis; this can drive the sepsis diagnostics market.
Key
Players
bioMérieux SA, Roche Diagnostics, Becton, Dickinson and Company, and
Beckman Coulter, Inc., are major players of this diagnostics market. They often
practice mergers & acquisitions, launching new products, and regional
expansion to get a better hold on the market.
