Latest Breastfeeding Accessories Encouraging Natural Drinking Ability Among Babies

Breastfeeding accessories are designed with an aim to express and store human milk to be fed to infants at a later time. These products are especially useful for lactating mothers with low or irregular milk flow.

Breastfeeding accessories mainly include breast milk storage and feeding, breast shells, breast milk preparation and cleaning products, and breast pads.

Enteral Feeding System for NICU

In March 2017, Medela LLC received an approval from the US FDA for ENFit Low-dose Tip enteral syringes. This approval has cleared the way for many NICU-specific enteral feeding system products such as syringes and syringe pumps, extension sets, feeding tubs, and warmers.

The product was developed to improve accuracy of oral medication required for small volume delivery in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). It aids in small-volume enteral drug delivery by stopping undesirable distribution of liquid while joining and/or removing from the feeding tube.

Medela Syringes with ENFit Connectors can be used for gravity feeding and pumping. They are available in 1 ml and 3 ml ENFit syringes and are composed of a GEDSA-designed Low-dose Tip.

In June 2017, Mendela launched a product called “Calmita”, which will be available across U.S. hospitals. This research-based hospital feeding solution helps hospitalized infants improve their natural drinking ability. The integrated vacuum controlled lets the baby decide when to drink and control the pace. Therefore, the baby can create his or her own drinking pattern.

Market Overview

According to Grand View Research, Inc., the global breastfeeding accessories market is set to achieve around USD 18.3 billion by 2025. The market can be propelled by a rise in working lactating women as they have less time to feed their baby. Rising disposable income of working mothers is also a favorable factor driving demand.

In 2016, the breastfeeding storage and feeding segment accounted for the largest share and anticipated to grow at a momentous rate over the forecast period (2014 to 2025). The nipple care products segment is also estimated to grow at rapid rate in future.

North America is estimated to dominate the market during the forecast period. Developing countries in Latin America and Asia have a lower acceptance of these products at present. Still, patients with high disposable income are likely to support market growth in these regions.

Prominent players operating in the market include Medela LLC, Edgewell Personal Care, Mayborn USA Inc, Pigeon Corporation, and Newell Brands.
